AVON RIVER RULES

STAY LEFT

NAVIGATION RULES for Avon River/ Otakaro between the upstream limits of Kerrs Reach and the boundary with the Estuary of the Heathcote and the Avon Rivers/Ihutai.  


  • The river bank should always be on your left.
  • If another boat/vessel/craft is heading your way move to the middle of the river to pass

STAY VISIBLE




We are not the only river users, there are also Rowers, Dragon Boaters, Waka Ama and sometimes the odd Motor Boat! 


Stay visible to other river users. Make sure your presence is known.


  • Always wear a head torch in the dark
  • Be vocal, let others know you are there
